Frequently asked questions
What exactly IS Dungeons & Dragons?
Dungeons & Dragons is a table top role playing game set in a medieval fantasy land where players create their own heroes to battle monsters and save those in need!
Ok, so what’s a table Top Role Playing Game? Is it like a board game?
Nope! Board games are expensive and require you to stick to a strict set of rules. Table Top RPGs, like Dungeons & Dragons, are an interactive shared story! One person (the Game Master) writes the story and creates villains and obstacles for the players to overcome. The players will create their very own heroes and talk through the game. Anything you can imagine doing in life, you can do in the game! All it takes is a roll of the dice.
You mentioned dice. So there are pieces to the game?
Not exactly. Table Top RPGs are about enacting your greatest heroic fantasies and adventures; you can do anything you want! But how well you do those things is determined by a roll of the dice. Every system is different, but their dice are all available online as free virtual dice, or you can order your very own physical dice! Your GM can also roll for you/lend you a set.
How many Table Top Role Playing Games are there?
Hundreds! No GM could learn them all (not without real magic!) Nick is pleased to offer a few of his favorite systems: Dungeons & Dragons, Blades in the Dark, Star Wars: Saga, D20 Modern, D20 Past, Everyday Heroes, and Call of Cthulhu.
You can find out more about a selection games Nick offers in the Games for Kids and Games for Adults sections.
So what kind of character should I be?
That depends on the system, and your own personal choice, of course. Wield the thunderstorm’s lightning and turn into a grizzly bear to battle your foes as the magical Druid in Dungeons & Dragons or shoot it out with Prohibition era gangsters in Call of Cthulhu! It’s all up to what you want for your own fantasy adventure!
How do I make my character?
Nick can walk you through the process, or He can custom build your ideal adventurer for you, all part of your complimentary “Game Basics/Character Building Session” after booking a game.
How long is a typical session?
Kids’ sessions run 1.5-2 hours and Adult sessions run 2 hours.
